Financial Modeling for Strategic Decisions

Run the decision before you make it
Scenario Analysis and Forecasting
When you’re weighing a real decision — a slower year, a major hire, a new location — you can see what each path does to profit and cash before you pick one. indinero builds the alternatives you’re considering off your base forecast, with major assumptions visible so you can pressure-test them. Building and running the scenarios is what this service covers; working through which one to choose is Long-Term Strategic Planning.
Cash Flow Modeling
Are you often surprised by your own cash? We model when money actually moves through the business — how long customers take to pay, when payroll and taxes land, what’s tied up in receivables and inventory — and keep it current as your actuals come in. You can see a tight stretch coming while there’s still time to plan for it.
Budgeting and Cost Projections
Your budget earns its keep — it’s what you check before committing to a hire or a large purchase. We build it at the level you want to manage against, and tie revenues and costs to the activities that drive them so a shift in volume or headcount shows up in the plan right away. Figures that matter trace to a stated assumption, so when someone asks “where did this come from,” there’s an answer.
Budget Tracking and Variance Analysis
Get the cause behind each variance — which driver moved the number, by how much, and whether it’s one you can influence. Consistent reporting surfaces emerging patterns and drift while they’re still small. You find out early enough to change the outcome. This is budget-versus-actual, where the financials landed against plan; tracking movement in your operating metrics is KPI Support.
Break-even and Profitability Analysis
Know what has to be true to break even — what volume, at what price, with what mix. Contribution margin by line of business shows which parts carry their own costs and how far each one sits from break-even. When margin moves, you see which of those levers shifted. Decomposing results down to individual products, customers, or partners is Profitability & Unit Economics.

FAQs About Our Financial Modeling Services
What is financial modeling, and why does it matter for an established business?
A financial model is a working version of your business in numbers – revenue drivers, costs, and cash, linked together so that changing one input shows you what happens to everything else. For an established company the value is not the model itself, it is that you stop guessing. You can see what a price change, a new hire, or a slow quarter does to cash before it happens. We build the model on your history, adjust for known or planned changes, and keep it current as the books close.
How is this different from the reporting our accountant already provides?
Accounting reports tell you what already happened — closed, reconciled, and on schedule. A financial model runs those same numbers forward: if volume shifts, if you add the hire, if a price changes, you can see what it does to profit and cash before you commit. The reporting is the foundation; the model is what lets you look at a decision before you make it.
What if the forecast turns out to be wrong?
Every forecast rests on assumptions, so the useful question isn’t whether it nails the number — it’s whether you’d make a different call if it came in higher or lower. That’s why we build a range and test the assumptions that move the outcome most: which driver matters, how much data stands behind it, and what does the downside looks like if it’s off. Knowing where a forecast can bend is worth more than knowing a single number that turns out to be wrong.
What is scenario modeling, and when is it worth running one?
Scenario modeling means building out how a decision could play out under different assumptions — a slower ramp, a faster one, a major hire, a new location — and seeing what each does to cash and profit before you commit. It earns its keep when a decision is big enough that being wrong is expensive.
What is the difference between financial modeling and strategic planning?
Modeling produces the numbers; strategic planning decides what to do about them. Financial modeling gives you a current picture of what happens under a given set of assumptions — the model is the deliverable. Strategic planning is the conversation around it: which alternative to pursue, what to prioritize, what the multi-year path looks like. In practice it runs both ways, since planning sets the direction the model encodes and the model’s output feeds the next decision. Most clients start with the model, because it’s hard to plan well without one.
How does the financial modeling process work?
Building the model is a collaboration from the start. A model is only as good as the assumptions behind it, and we work together to build those assumptions — defining how your revenue builds, what drives your costs, where the business is headed. We validate the historical numbers and bring the structure; you bring the context only you have. The more you and/or your team share in those first conversations, the sooner it becomes a tool you rely on.
