KPI Support For Metrics
that Move the Business

Metrics that change what happens next
KPI Development
indinero helps you land on the short list of metrics, or KPIs, that matter for your business — a deliberate mix of leading indicators that move ahead of results, and lagging ones that confirm them. We build those definitions with the people whose work moves each number, because a metric someone helped define is one they’ll stand behind. Definitions are documented and sources traced, so the numbers hold up when someone questions them.
Reporting & Dashboards
We build the view leadership uses to track progress, with every KPI shown against its target rather than on its own. That’s what connects the dashboard to the strategy: each number says whether you’re on the path you chose, not just what it happens to be this month. When a measure drifts off target, it surfaces while there’s still room to respond.
Performance & Variance Analysis
When a metric moves, the useful question is what’s driving it — volume, price, mix, timing, cost — and whether that driver is one you can influence or one you can only respond to. Each cycle we work through the causes with you, so a change you can affect becomes something to act on, and one you can’t becomes a risk to get ahead of or an opportunity to move on early. This service covers movement in your operating metrics; variance against the budget itself sits under Financial Modeling.
Benchmarking
We show you how your performance stacks up against comparable businesses — margins, key expense ratios, and operating metrics measured against companies of similar size and industry.

FAQs About Our KPI Support
What KPIs should my business track?
Fewer than you’d expect, and they should include both metrics that help predict your results and those that describe your past. Every business needs the financial core — margin, cash, working capital, AR and AP aging — but the KPIs that earn their place are the operational drivers underneath: the utilization rate, the win rate, the on-time percentage, the cost-per-unit that explains why the financials move. We work with you to land on a short, mixed list of financial and operational measures, because it’s hard to focus on forty metrics. The gold standard is KPIs that are built to cascade: a handful of company-level measures leadership watches, each supported by the departmental drivers that roll up into it — so every team tracks a number it can actually move, and all of them ladder back to the few things that matter most.
Isn't this what our monthly accounting reports already give us?
Your accounting reports are the foundation, and they answer “what happened” accurately. KPI support answers the two questions they don’t: why it happened, and what needs to change. A P&L tells you margin dropped; a good KPI dashboard shows the utilization, mix, or pricing driver that moved it — early enough to respond. It also pulls in operational measures that don’t appear in the financials but drive them. The financials tell you the score; KPIs show you how the game is being played — which is what lets you change the outcome.
Why not just buy dashboard software?
You can, and the software is the easy part. What makes a dashboard work is everything around the tool: agreeing what each metric means, tracing each one to a reliable source, choosing the few that matter out of the hundreds you could track, and reading the story they tell each month. Most dashboards that go unused failed on those, not on the software. We build in whatever platform you already own — the value we add is the definitions, the drivers, and the interpretation.
Should we tie KPIs to compensation?
Incentive-based compensation is powerful, and worth phasing in rather than switching on. The strongest results come from running your KPIs as shared discussion measures first — so everyone trusts the numbers and understands the drivers — then attaching compensation once you’ve been through the process for a few cycles. The goal is to prevent a measurement from becoming a target people manage toward, sometimes in ways you didn’t intend. With a little time, the same metric drives the behavior you actually want.
How do we set targets for our KPIs?
Targets are typically a blend of three inputs. Your own history tells you what’s been normal and which direction you’re moving — for most measures the trend says more than any single reading. Your strategic plan tells you what the number needs to be for the plan to work, which is the more challenging target. And where solid comparables exist for your size and industry, benchmarks tell you whether a gap is a normal swing or something structural. There’s one more test: a target has to be something the team feels they can influence.
How long before we have something we can use?
It’s an iterative process. The first working KPIs and/or dashboard usually come together within the first couple of monthly cycles. The work includes agreeing on the measures and definitions, and tracing the data sources. Validating those sources is the step most likely to add time, and it’s worth doing properly, because a metric nobody trusts is worse than no metric at all. From there it sharpens over first month or two because watching live numbers can change what you find valuable, and we adjust as that becomes clear. The goal is to have something usable early on.
